Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate & dip the rim of the cup.

2. Store the cup in the fridge

3. Blend ingredients until smooth.

4. Pour smoothie into the cup.

Prepare the Chocolate Rim:

  1. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips with the coconut oil in the microwave or on the stovetop over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  2. Pour the melted chocolate onto a flat plate and spread it into a circle slightly larger than the rim of your glass.
  3. Dip the rim of a mocktail or smoothie glass into the chocolate, twisting gently to coat. Use a spoon to create a dripping effect by adding extra chocolate around the edges.
  4. Place the glass in the refrigerator to set while you prepare the smoothie.

Make the Smoothie:

  1. In a blender, combine the frozen strawberries, ice cream, and chocolate sauce.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Assemble and Serve:

  1. Pour the smoothie into the chilled, chocolate-dipped glass.
  2. Garnish with a chocolate-covered strawberry and an extra drizzle of chocolate sauce if desired.

Substitutions

Frozen Strawberries: frozen raspberries, frozen blueberries, or fresh strawberries (add ice for a thicker texture).

Vanilla or Cookies & Cream Ice Cream: chocolate ice cream, strawberry ice cream, or dairy-free ice cream such as coconut or almond milk-based.

Chocolate Sauce: Nutella or other chocolate hazelnut spread, caramel sauce or chocolate(milk, semi-sweet or dark).

Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or white chocolate chips.

Coconut Oil: butter, vegetable oil, or ghee.

Variations

  • Vegan - substitute the ice cream with a vegan ice cream or unsweetened almond milk with ice.
  • High Protein - Add chocolate protein powder or any protein powder of choice to make this a chocolate-covered strawberry protein smoothie!
  • Chia pudding - Add 1 cup of the smoothie mixture & 4 tablespoon of chia seeds, mix well & leave in the fridge overnight to make a chocolate-covered strawberry smoothie chia pudding!
  • More Chocolate - Add some cacao powder if you want a more chocolate flavor.
  • Healthy Fats - If you want to add some healthy fats, add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter.

Equipment

  • microwave safe bowl
  • measuring cups & spoons
  • high speed blender
  • mocktail/smoothie glass

Storage

Store any leftover smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. For the best texture, reblend with a few ice cubes before serving. Chocolate-dipped glasses should be enjoyed immediately, as the chocolate may soften over time.

3 Top Tips for Success

  1. Use very cold ingredients: This ensures a thick texture, creamy smoothie texture that holds up well in the chocolate-dipped glass.
  2. Chill the glass: Place your chocolate-dipped glass in the fridge for at least 10 minutes to set the chocolate and avoid melting when the smoothie is poured in.
  3. Blend in pulses: Start blending in short pulses to break down the frozen fruit, then blend continuously for a smoother consistency.
