Roughly cut up the ginger root.

Serve & enjoy!
1. In a saucepan, combine the chopped ginger, brown sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
2. Let it simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the ginger infuses the syrup.
3. Remove from heat and allow the ginger syrup to cool completely. Once cooled, strain the syrup into a jar and discard the ginger pieces.
4. To serve, fill a glass with ice cubes. Add 3 tablespoons of the ginger syrup and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon.
5. Top it off with sparkling mineral water and stir well to combine.
6. Garnish with a lemon slice for an extra refreshing touch. Enjoy your homemade ginger ale!

Substitutions
Lemon Slices for Garnish: You can garnish with lime, orange
Fresh Ginger Root: Substitute with ground ginger (use about 1 teaspoon per cup of water), though the flavor will be less fresh and slightly different.
Brown Sugar: Swap with white sugar, honey, or agave syrup for a different sweetness profile.
Water: You can use coconut water for a slightly tropical twist or herbal tea (like chamomile) for a subtle flavor infusion.
Lemon: Lime works well as a tangy alternative, or you can try orange for a sweeter citrus note.
Sparkling Mineral Water: Use club soda, tonic water, or flavored sparkling water (like lemon-lime) to keep the fizz.
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Knife & Cutting Board
Storage
Store the ginger syrup in an airtight jar or bottle in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks. When ready to serve, mix with sparkling water as needed. Stir well before each use, as separation may occur.
Top tips for Success!
- Simmer Slowly: Let the ginger and sugar simmer gently to fully infuse the syrup with ginger's bold flavor. Avoid boiling to prevent bitterness.
- Strain Well: Use a fine mesh strainer to remove ginger pieces for a smooth syrup, ensuring a clean, refreshing drink.
- Adjust Sweetness: Taste the syrup and adjust sugar to suit your preferred sweetness level before mixing with seltzer.
FAQs
Yes! You can substitute sugar with natural sweeteners like honey, agave syrup, or stevia. Keep in mind that using alternative sweeteners may slightly change the flavor and texture of the syrup.
Ginger syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks. Make sure it stays chilled to preserve freshness and flavor.
Absolutely! If you prefer a non-carbonated version, mix the ginger syrup with flat water instead of sparkling water. You’ll still get the ginger flavor, but without the fizz.

This was awesome! A nice alternative to Canada dry ginger ale even my 7 year old likes it! With the leftover over ginger after boiling it I put it in a tupperware with sugar and made ginger candies. Thank you for sharing

Hello, question, I'm looking forward to make this but wondered how much ginger to use? Ginger Roots are quite variable in size, how many grams do you think at a guess?
